Heatwork: temperature taking, pyrometric cones, digital photographs, 2022

Sarah Garcia is an interdisciplinary visual artist working with various craft materials and processes, with a current focus in clay, fiber, printmaking, sculpture and installation. Her work with clay draws from histories of human relationships with ceramic vessels, the spaces they occupy and contain, and the possibilities of what a form can hold, protect, transfigure, and transmit. Her current work explores collaborations with clay, transitions, and interstitial spaces, centered around conversations with her daughter. These dialogues address care, labor, family patterns, cultural histories, agency and memory. She lives and works in San Diego, California, and is currently an MFA candidate in ceramics at the School of Art and Design at San Diego State University.
